The Foster Care Program is a vital part of the RSPCA. Each year thousands of dogs, cats, kittens, puppies, poultry, livestock, horses, caged birds, mice, rats and guinea pigs, rely on our wonderful foster carers for a second chance in life. Many of these animals are simply too young for desexing and adoption. Others may be injured, sick or have a behavioural issue that needs addressing.

A home environment is far better for an animal compared to a pen or cage in the shelter. A loving foster family can provide a more stress-free and caring place where an animal can grow, thrive and recover.

Right now, our Rockhampton Adoption Centre is appealing for foster carers who are particularly interested in fostering animals in our Pets in Crisis Program (this program offers emergency boarding for up to 28 days for owners who are working with dv connect to leave a domestic violence situation), Bequest Program (often older animals who are awaiting adoption after their owners have passed away), animals that have been seized by our Inspectorate (cruelty and neglect case animals who are awaiting the outcome of legal proceedings) and animals who have been sourced from the local pound and can hopefully be saved through adoption.
