Luna's Story

Hey there! My name is Luna but everyone calls me Lulu.

I am a very sweet but nervous girl and I am still finding my brave in the world. You see, I spent most of my life locked in a crate and so the big wide world is quite scary, especially people! I am yet to completely trust anyone here at the shelter but staff think when I am in a home with consistent handler that can give me time and space I will eventually trust and then truly shine! Though I don't trust humans, I LOVE other dogs and if my new family has a friendly and confident doggy friend to show me the ropes, it will definitely help me succeed in my new home. I really enjoy being outside and exploring so I would like a home with a backyard that I can sunbake in, and I would love to go on daily walks in quiet neighborhoods with my new doggy sibling.

Though I am a nervous nelly I have never shown an ounce of aggression, I am a sweet and gentle girl at heart. Once I am comfortable staff think I would be a nice family dog and be calm and gentle with little children. So if you have kids that understand to give me my space and wait for me to come to them we should get along fine.

If you have it in your heart to take on a girl with a little baggage, I might be the one for you! Come meet me soon.

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
