Mr. Snuffleupagus's Story

Hey there! I am Mr Snuffleupagus! Snuffle for short. My name came from my desire to snuffle at your hands and pockets for treatos! I am a very sweet and sensitive boy looking for a second chance at life. I am the kind of dog that needs people to take their time with me as I need a moment to warm up to you. Once I trust you though! WOW! I am silly goofy chap and sooo loyal! I will be glued to your side! I don't mind other dogs but can get overwhelmed at times so my new housemate would have to be calm and preferably aloof. I would be happy being an only dog, I would love for my human to be able to spend extra time at home to help me settle in before leaving me for long stints at a time. Teenagers or no children would be preferred in my new home as when I get excited my limbs go everywhere! I am calm majority of the day and walk so well on lead! I have been taken into foster to have a break and my foster family loved having me around and I was such a good boy. I am now back in shelter awaiting my forever family. If I sound like your kind of dog call the shelter and ask to meet!

What should I feed my dog?

Your dog's diet should be based on a high-quality, balanced premium commercial dog food that is suited to their specific life stage (puppy, adolescent, adult, pregnant, senior) and health condition.

The amount of food your dog needs will depend on factors like their size, breed, age, and activity level. However, it’s important not to overfeed or underfeed. Your vet can weigh your dog, assess their body condition score, and offer feeding recommendations.

To prevent bloat, which can be life-threatening, adult dogs should be fed at least twice a day and should not engage in exercise right before or after meals. This is especially important for deep-chested breeds like Boxers and German Shepherds.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available. Do not give your dog milk as it can lead to gastrointestinal issues.

Should I feed bones to my dog?

Bones offer dogs nutrients and mental stimulation while helping remove tartar from their teeth. However, bones can also break teeth, cause blockages, and carry harmful bacteria. Consider these factors to make an informed decision for your pet and family’s wellbeing.

Dental chews are a good alternative if you wish to provide your pet with entertainment that assists with teeth cleaning. Visit RSPCA World for Pets for a range of quality dental chews for your dog.
