Flyball is the world’s fastest growing canine sport and is the only team sport for dogs on the planet. Flyball is a relay race with four dogs on each team. The course consists of four hurdles and a box – the dogs jump over the hurdles and hit the box out of which the ball flies. They then catch the ball and return back over the hurdles. As they pass the start gate, the next dog has its turn.
Flyball combines the elements of obedience and agility and promotes cooperation and good sportsmanship in the training and exhibition of dogs. It provides mental and physical stimulation for the dogs, as well as the ultimate in socialisation.
The Flyball Fanatics have been holding Flyball training classes at the RSPCA Fairfield grounds for four years. The RSPCA regards Flyball as an important part of its strategic plan for promoting responsible dog ownership and addressing obesity in dogs.
