RSPCA Qld is congratulating the Government for thinking about animal welfare after it announced that $1.5 million over two years would go towards rebuilding the Cairns Animal Care Campus.

“We received a significant bequest from Donald Gorry, but on its own that wouldn’t cover the costs,” said RSPCA Qld CEO Mark Townend. “Now with this major input from the Government we can do the vital refurbishments that have been desperately needed for years now. We’re very grateful to the Government and the Gorry family. This is a major win for animal welfare in North Queensland.

Close to 1,000 animals pass through the Cairns Centre every year and that number is rising annually, even though rehoming rates are the best they’ve ever been.

“This is long overdue and is great news for the region.”
