Events
Community fundraising plays an essential role in raising awareness and funds to help the 41,000 animals we care for every year. Holding your own event is a fun way to help RSPCA Qld raise vital funds.
We can guide you on running your event, and provide posters and brochures to help make your event a success. Below are a few fundraising ideas, but the possibilities are limited only by your imagination!
Community Event Ideas
Trivia night
Trivia nights are a fun way of getting groups of people together to raise funds for the RSPCA. Ask friends, family, work colleagues, clients etc. to fill tables of ten at a cost of $10 per person, for example. There could be ten rounds of ten questions with small prizes for the winning table per round and a prize for the overall winner.
Sausage Sizzle
Why not hold a sausage sizzle at your school, workplace or community group? Companies such as Bunnings and Mitre 10 will also allow you to organise one on site.
Dress down day at work
Organise a casual dress down day at work and ask participants for a gold coin donation to be donated to RSPCA Qld. To get in the spirit of fundraising, perhaps staff members could dress up as their favourite animal!
Enter a team in the Million Paws Walk
A fun way of raising funds for RSPCA Qld is during our annual Million Paws Walk. Enter a team of people to come along and walk on the day and encourage your team to raise as much money as possible before the walk through our sponsor books. If you think you are up to it, you can enter our Workplace or Vets Challenge and be the in the running to win some great prizes! Contact Shana Johnston on 3426 9932 or sjohnston@rspcaqld.org.au.
Barefoot lawn bowls
A set entry fee could cover food, drinks and green fees. You could also have prizes for the worst roll, best costume etc
Cook up a storm for Cupcake Day for the RSPCA
Dust off your chef’s hat, get your mixer ready and whip up some homemade cupcakes for Cupcake Day for the RSPCA on Monday 18 August 2008 and ask your colleagues to buy your cupcakes with proceeds going to RSPCA QLD. For more information go to www.rspcacupcakeday.com.au or contact Shana Johnston on 3426 9932.
eBay auction
Got a painting with nowhere to hang it? A set of golf clubs that you just haven’t used? Put unwanted or donated items for auction on eBay and donate the money towards your fundraising goal.
Movie Nights
Cinemas can be really helpful and open their doors for a movie screening, with a percentage of ticket sales to go towards RSPCA QLD.
Guessing Competition
How many dog biscuits in a jar? (e.g. $1 donation to guess)
Self sacrifice
Make the ultimate sacrifice and give up chocolate for two months and ask your friends, family and colleagues to sponsor your pledge! Or instead of buying your morning coffee or lunch, make it at home or work and donate the money you would have spent towards achieving your fundraising goal.
Community Fundraising Ideas
Wombat at work
Sit a plastic collection wombat at your workplace reception or counter for staff and customers to donate their spare change. Contact Brigitte Duffield on 3426 9943 or bduffield@rspcaqld.org.au for more information.
Raffle
Use your contacts with business and friends and ask for an item to be donated and used as a raffle prize. Recruit a group of people to sell raffle tickets for $2 each or 6 for $10 (for example) and raise as much money as you can.
There are some rules for conducting a raffle. On any advertising material you should state the retail value of the prize, the cost of the tickets, the time, date and where the raffle is being drawn, and how the winners will be contacted (phone, mail etc). Please check out www.qogr.qld.gov.au or contact Shana Johnston on 3426 9932 or sjohnston@rspcaqld.org.au for more information.
Garage sale
Collect household items, books, clothes, furniture and bric-a-brac from friends, family and co-workers and hold a garage sale. Advertise in your local paper or in the relevant section in The Courier-Mail. Invite your friends to help on the day.
Sell RSPCA merchandise at your workplace
RSPCA will give you small items of merchandise such as keyrings, pens, badges, toys etc. to sell to your work colleagues, friends and family etc. or at your workplace reception or counter. Contact Shana Johnston on 3426 9932 or sjohnston@rspcaqld.org.au
Awareness and education
Raising awareness of the work of the RSPCA is a very important first step in educating the public on animal welfare issues. RSPCA Qld can send a representative to your workplace to speak with your group about the vital work performed by our Society.
