VETERINARY NURSE

(Full Time – Fairfield)

Your Goal:

You will provide vital help to all creatures great and small by, in conjunction with the Veterinarians, ensuring the health and welfare needs of all animals in the care of RSPCA Qld Inc are met and are of the highest standards practical,whilst assisting in the education of staff and public in matters of animal care and welfare.

 

Your Key Responsibilities -

In your role you will:

·         Assist in the maintenance of a Health Management program for RSPCA animals including notation of changes in health of animals under the care of Veterinary services.

·         Ensure animals in the direct care of Veterinary Services are nursed in an appropriate manner by ensuring they are kept clean and comfortable, medicated and fed.

§         Assist in the selection of animals chosen for re homing, including the preparation of sort lists and the daily updating of data.

·         Carry out the preparation of animals for surgery ,perform routine medical and laboratory tests and under direct veterinary supervision perform minor surgical procedures, and ensure all medical and surgical equipment is maintained adequately and fully operational.

·         Advise RSPCA Qld Inc. non veterinary staff, animal owners, external groups and members of the public about general care and issues that relate to the health and welfare of animals and act as liaison between Veterinarians and members of the public and animal attendants.

·         Assist with stock control and order replacement stock when necessary.

§         Help to supervise team of volunteers in operation of the Veterinary Services department.

·         Handle disputes and complaints from clients in a diplomatic and courteous manner and forward matters of concern to the relevant supervising RSPCA Veterinarian.

·         Adhere to RSPCA Code of Conduct, Polices & Procedures and workplace health and safety regulations

 

Your Skills & Qualifications -

To succeed in this job you will have:

·         A Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (or Australian recognised equivalent).

·         Previous surgical nursing experience with companion animal desexing highly regarded.

·         Working knowledge of Animal Welfare Issues and RSPCA National Policies and Positions.

·         High levels of compassion and interest in animals and their care givers.

·         Capacity to work well under pressure with limited resources.

·         Pragmatic approach to volunteer management.

·         Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, and to write routine reports and correspondence, and calculate figures and amounts such as dose rates.

·         Ability to speak effectively before groups of volunteers or employees of the Society.

·         Basic computer skills.

·         Alignment and adherence to the RSPCA Qld mission, vision and people principles;

·         Ability to perform physical duties including manual handling, and an ability to handle a minimum weight of 10 kilos.

This is a full time position, based at our Fairfield Shelter.  The ordinary working hours for the successful incumbent shall be a nominal 40 hours per week, being 38 ordinary hours and two (2) reasonable additional hours. Working hours are across a 7 day roster and weekend work will be required.  Remuneration is as per our Certified Agreement, Veterinary Staff and is commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.  An immediate start is required.
