Animal Attendant

(Casual – Fairfield)

Your Goal

You will work closely with the Shelter team to care for and attend to all animals by performing a wide range of duties using best practice animal husbandry techniques. This is an ideal opportunity for someone keen to further develop their skills and responsibilities within the animal industry.

 

Your Skills & Qualifications

·         Minimum 12 months experience working with animals in a shelter or similar environment;

·         A Certificate or formal qualification in companion/domestic animal husbandry (or equivalent industry experience);

·         The ability to work within a small team;

·         A proven capacity to be impartial to the emotive issues with which they will be challenged on a daily basis;

·         A broad understanding of the many needs and requirements of animals that are housed in shelter situations, their behaviors and their limitations;

·         A demonstrable commitment to animal health, care and welfare issues;

·         Superior communication skills both verbal & written and a demonstrable record of providing excellent customer service;

·         Moderate computer skills.

·         Excellent organizational skills, physical fitness and a love of working outdoors;

Remuneration is as per our Certified Agreement Level 1 $17.87 per hour (casual) commensurate with experience. Working hours are across a 7 day roster and weekend work will be required. Hours available will vary according to the operational needs of the shelter; however, availability for between 24-32 hrs per week would be required. Shifts can be between 3 - 10 hrs in duration. An immediate start is required and a training rate may apply.

Shelter Veterinarian

(Part time or Full Time - Fairfield Shelter)

Your Goal

You will provide vital help to all creatures great and small by ensuring the health and welfare needs of all animals in the care of RSPCA Qld.

 

Your Duties

In your role you will:

·         Extensive desexing, medicating and treatment of Shelter animals.

·         Diagnosis and monitoring of disease, by taking all necessary steps required in relation to herd health issues within the facility;

·         Treatment of animals adopted from the facility (within 30 days) post adoption as per RSPCA QLD Inc. policies and guidelines;

·         Assist, when required, in the selection process of incoming animals suitable for rehoming according to RSPCA QLD policy and guidelines;

·         Assists when necessary in the euthanasia of animals deemed unsuitable for re-homing due to temperament or disease;

·         Perform duties as outlined in RSPCA QLD Inc. standard operating procedures.

·         Assist with Wildlife if required

 

Your Skills & Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will possess:

·         B.V.Sc. and current Qld registration to practice veterinary medicine;

·         A clean Open Qld drivers licence;

·         Experience preferred

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

·         Self motivated and highly organized;

·         Sound understanding of the greater organisation and the many issues it faces;

Genuine interest in animal welfare and the objectives of RSPCA.

 

ONLY INDIVIDUALS WHO MEET THIS CRITERIA WILL BE CONSIDERED

 

This position can either be full time or part time dependant on the incumbent with a minimum of 20 hours. The role offers a possible combination of Wildlife and Shelter Medicine / Surgery.

 

Remuneration is commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.  Work days are generally Monday to Friday however some occasional weekend work may be required.
