What to do in a wildlife emergency
If you find an orphaned, sick or injured animal:
1. Keep calm and assess the situation
2. If it is an orphaned bird, check to see if its parents are around. The bird will be much happier if it is reunited with its natural parents
3. If it is a small, easily handled animal, place it in a box and put it somewhere dark and quiet
4. If it is a large animal, place a box or washing basket over the top of it to calm the animal down
5.Call for help! The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service will put you in touch with a wildlife carer in your area on: 1300 130 372
6.You can also bring the animal in to any RSPCA refuge if you have access to transport and are happy to handle the animal

8. Register to become a 1300-ANIMAL Wildlife Hero
If you come across a snake:
1 Don’t panic!
2. Walk away from it slowly
3. If it is inside the house, close the door of the room it is in and place a towel under the door. You can then call The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service on: 1300 130 372, who can put you in touch with a licensed snake handler to take it outside
4. If the snake is in the yard, keep your pets safely away from it and the snake will move on in its own time. Snakes don’t want to be near humans any more than humans generally want to be near snakes! |
