RSPCA Qld School Visits

Arrange for the RSPCA to visit your school.

RSPCA Qld offers a range of Education Programs that aim to develop responsible and caring behaviour toward animals. On one level our programs are about learning how to care for animals. At a more complex level, our programs are about learning why we should care for animals.

In addition to educating students about responsible animal care, our lessons teach humane values and encourage students to be active citizens exhibiting kindness, responsibility, fairness, commitment, courage and respect. These values foster care for animals, people and the environment.

An RSPCA visit can be incorporated into your daily teaching. Our lessons are developed by qualified educators and are linked to the curriculum in many Key Learning Areas including Science, SOSE, English and The Arts. An RSPCA visit perfectly complements pastoral care programs or any program geared toward students’ social development. Our lessons encourage students to think about how the choices they make impact on animals and the world around them, fostering pro-social behaviour and creating active, responsible citizens.

Students of any age can benefit from education programs on animal welfare. Our lessons target the needs, interests and abilities of each year level and can be tailored to suit your individual school and class requirements.

RSPCA Community Visits

The RSPCA is committed to promoting animal welfare and messages of care and respect for animals to the wider community in order to prevent animal cruelty and neglect in the future.

The RSPCA believes that our programs are a vital service to offer the community.  Research has long since established the link between those who abuse animals and those who then go on to abuse people. Education is our most powerful tool in eradicating violence toward both animals and people, by tackling the root of the problem. Our programs ultimately aim to create a kinder community for both people and animals.

Humane education has proven to be the key to engendering long-term change in people’s attitudes and behaviours toward animals. Our programs foster kindness, respect and empathy for animals, people and the environment.

Our Education Officers can visit your community group to discuss a range of subjects from the Role of the RSPCA and Responsible Pet Care to Living with Wildlife.

Shelter Tours

Our Shelter Tours are a fantastic way to see the RSPCA Qld in action! Some RSPCA Qld shelters offer students and community groups a guided tour of the facility allowing them to experience first hand the process an animal goes through during its time with the RSPCA.

For information about regional shelters, please contact your local shelter: http://www.rspcaqld.org.au/aboutus/shelters.htm

Fairfield Shelter Tour (State Headquarters)

Education tours of the Fairfield Shelter are available to schools and community groups during the school term between March and October at a cost of $4 per person. The minimum age for students on shelter tours is Year 1.

Group size for shelter tours should be fifteen or less, so that students and visitors can easily hear their tour leader and also to move around the shelter safely. With enough notice, class groups may be broken up into two groups with two educators in place.

Please remember that there are Workplace Health and Safety Concerns when you visit a shelter. Some shelters are unable to offer shelter tours on particular days, or during the summer, due to Workplace Health and Safety concerns. Tours may not include the Veterinary Services sections of the shelter in order to prevent the spread of infections.  Our first priority is to keep our animals, ourselves and our community safe!

For further information or to book shelter tours please contact:
