Duck and Quail Hunting
Permanent ban in Queensland!
In August 2006, the State Government permanently banned recreational duck and quail hunting in Queensland.
The permanent ban is proof that ordinary Queenslanders can make their feelings known and that the government will listen.
RSPCA Qld, in collaboration with Birds Queensland, the Queensland Conservation Council, Animal Liberation Queensland and the Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland, lobbied the Government in a vigorous campaign over the last year. We were supported by thousands of protest postcards sent to the Government by people just like you who were opposed to this cruel and inhumane sport.
The Minister for the Environment, the Hon Desley Boyle, amended the Nature Conservation Act so that it will require an Act of Parliament to make a Conservation plan to allow duck and quail hunting. Any future Government that wanted to amend it would have to put it to a vote in the House.
How to help
The permanent ban on duck and quail hunting is a victory for the animal lovers of Queensland. But there is still much more to be done for so many more animals– and much that you can do to help.
Please lend your support to RSPCA Qld’s campaigns:
· Desex – Don’t Kill – Prevent the death of thousands of unwanted cats and kittens
· Dogs Die in Hot Cars – Prevent the suffering and death of hundreds of animals
· Tested on Animals – Break the cycle of domestic abuse
· Fair Go for Farm Animals – Help the RSPCA fight for humane farming
· Battery Hens – Get hens out of cages
· Dry sow stalls – Choose free range pork to give pregnant sows a better life
· Live Export Trade and long distance animal transport – Help the RSPCA ban inhumane animal transport
