Warning signs and symptoms

If you are concerned about a dog (or other animal) left in a hot vehicle or outside in the sun, check for these warning signs and symptoms of hyperthermia and heatstroke:

·         Increased respiration

·         Redness of the gums

·         Distressed, frantic behaviour

·         Profuse salivation, vomiting and diarrhoea

·         Convulsions

·         Coma

·         Organ “meltdown”

 

Even if an animal is revived after being in a coma, it can die a week or so later.

Never leave a dog in a vehicle on a warm day.

 

Not even in the shade.

 

Not even with the windows down.

 

 Not even for a few minutes.
