Dogs Die in Hot Cars

The Issues  Travelling with Animals  Warning Signs  What to do in an Emergency  How you can help

How you can help

Each year, the RSPCA receives hundreds of distress calls about animals (usually dogs) being left inside vehicles in the heat.

You can help RSPCA Qld to educate dog owners about the dangers of leaving dogs in vehicles by:

·         Encouraging friends and family to leave their animals at home with shade, shelter and access to fresh water on warm days

·         Requesting a “Dogs Die in Hot Cars” brochure

·         Purchasing a "Dogs Die in Hot Cars" sticker ($2 each)

·         Purchasing a “Dogs Die in Hot Cars” vinyl spare tyre cover (suitable for 4WDs)

·         Making a donation to help support RSPCA Qld’s “Dogs Die in Hot Cars” campaign. Please phone 3426 9936 or e-mail yhills@rspcaqld.org.au.

Be alert for an animal left in distress inside a locked vehicle – get emergency help without delay. In a car park, notify centre management immediately and phone one of the following:

·         RSPCA Animal Cruelty Hotline – 1300 852 188

·         DPI Call Centre – 13 25 23

·         Your local Police station or 000 – emergencies only

Never leave a dog in a vehicle on a warm day.

Not even in the shade.

Not even with the windows down.

Not even for a few minutes.

Never!
