Each year, RSPCA Queensland refuges receive more than 33,000 animals, mainly dogs, cats, kittens and puppies. Despite our best efforts, many of these animals may never go to a new home. This is due to many reasons, including failure of many people to get their pets desexed, the surrender rate of animals and the sheer volume of unwanted animals finding shelter at the RSPCA.
Consider visiting one of the RSPCA’s eight Queensland refuges once you are ready to get a pet. You’ll meet many wonderful companions waiting to be part of your life. They have a range of ages and personalities and some are former cruelty case animals. Contrary to popular belief, any animal that you see in the RSPCA adoption pens will stay at the refuge until it finds a new home.
The RSPCA gives all its animals a head-start in their new lives. Our adoption animals are desexed, have had their first vaccination (at least) and are temperament tested and health checked - services that in total cost almost double the adoption price of an RSPCA animal. All cruelty case dogs receive a complimentary book of RSPCA Hydrobath vouchers and discounted rates for Animal Training courses.

All money raised from increased adoption prices for highly adoptable animals helps to care for all of the animals in RSPCA Qld shelters and foster homes across the state.

If you are looking for a specific breed of dog, there are breed rescue groups for virtually every breed. The RSPCA also supports a special program to find homes for retired racing greyhounds –these graceful dogs can make wonderful companions! You can also visit website www.catmatch.com.au, a free service matching cats with new owners.
The RSPCA wants only the best for all animals we have nurtured and we take particular care in finding loving new companions for animals who have suffered abuse. (While they are in our care, these animals are referred to as ‘black tags’ because of the colour of the tag identifying them as a cruelty case animal). Potential new owners are carefully screened and the RSPCA has an enviable success rate in rehoming our ‘black tags’ in the best homes possible.

Adopting with your Friends Forever Gift Card
Go into any RSPCA Queensland shelter and talk to one of our helpful animal attendants. They can help you select the right pet for you and your family. Once you have selected your new companion go to the Shelter reception area and let them know you have a Gift card. After a short interview to make sure all the requirements are being met and to explain what you get in an RSPCA pet. You can take your new friend home.

Purchases exceeding the Gift Card Value
If you would like to adopt an animal that costs a little more than you have allocated on your gift card, you can pay the excess using another payment method.
Purchases below the Gift Card Value
If you would like to adopt an animal that costs less than you have allocated on your gift card you can either purchase further merchandise and pet products at the time of adoption or get the excess refunded to you.
Validity and Expiry of the Gift Card
Your Gift Card will expire on the last day of the month 1 year from the date of its purchase.
Gift Cards can not be used for Cash Advances
You cannot exchange your gift card for cash.
Gift Cards are non-refundable.
Lost or Stolen Gift Card
Treat this card like cash. Lost or stolen cards will not be replaced or refunded.
